One of our latest releases is work patterns. These are essentially shifts that have a pattern of working and rest times.
An example might be a typical FIFO (fly in fly out) schedule that entails working 10-12 hours for 2-4 weeks straight, including weekends, followed by 1-2 weeks off. Despite the demanding hours, workers are guaranteed days off according to their roster, along with annual leave, ensuring ample time for rest, recuperation, and family.
In this example we are adding a 14 on / 7 off work pattern.
To set these up you must first enable the work pattern tab by going the SETTINGS -> SYSTEM SETTINGS -> FEATURES and then select the enable work patterns check box. Under the check boxes is a radio button which allows three variations of the work pattern.
- match to timesheet records created allows management to monitor time worked versus the work pattern
- enables the use of work patterns to create a roster for the worker. This can also be published as timesheets
- enable the creation of timesheets in line with the work pattern for the worker.
Don’t forget to scroll down and save your new settings.
To set up a work pattern go to the WORK PATTERN tab on the top menu and add a new record with a descriptive name. We have created a 14 on / 7 off pattern for this example.
Then click on the magnifying glass and at the bottom of the screen add rows to suit the work pattern. In this case I have added 14 rows as it is only necessary to add in the days that are worked. If the work pattern does not require weekend work do not add in the weekend days.
In this case it is a work pattern of 14 on which implies 14 days of work. Each day has also been allocated a half hour break denoted by the 0.5 in the break column.
Now all we need to do is allocate the work pattern to a user. So go to ADMIN/USER, open a user record and select the work profile tab then add a work pattern. A drop down menu will appear with the work pattern you have set up, ready for selection. Enter a start date for the work patter and makes sure you correctly select the start week and day that you want to begin the work pattern. It is possible to begin a work pattern part way through by selecting a later week and/or day should the worker be delayed.
Leave the end date blank to indicate that this is the currently running work pattern. If the user changes to a different work pattern enter an end date on the existing work pattern and then create a new record with the new work pattern and associated details entered.
Once the user has a work profile setup the system will automatically create timesheet records every day just after midnight. If you have just setup a work profile you can use the buttons in the work profile page to create timesheet records.
If you are using our award rules you should click the button to re-assign non exported timesheet records if you click either publish button.
